P7LM and P7LMC students Become Scientists for a Day!
30th Apr 2025
On Wednesday 30th April Holy Trinity Primary School students had the unique opportunity to step into the shoes of scientists as part of a collaborative project with Queens University, Belfast, and The Royal Society of Chemistry. The project, titled "Algae Detectives: The Glow Quest," focused on testing water samples to detect the presence of algae.
During this exciting activity, the children tested five water samples using UV torches to identify algae. They then calculated the amount of algae bloom buster needed to treat contaminated areas. This hands-on experience emphasized the importance of science in our lives, particularly in understanding and protecting our environment.
The students were enthusiastic and engaged, learning valuable lessons about environmental science and the impact of algae on water ecosystems. This project not only sparked their curiosity but also highlighted the critical role of scientific research in solving real-world problems.
We are incredibly proud of our young scientists and grateful to Queens University and The Royal Society of Chemistry for providing this enriching experience.
