P6 Viking Homes Outdoor Learning Project
20th Oct 2025
This term, our topic has been all about the Vikings, and the children have been thoroughly enjoying their learning journey. One area that sparked particular interest was exploring Viking homes—what they looked like and how they were built. We discussed the natural materials the Vikings would have used, such as stone, wood, sticks, straw, and moss, and the children had the opportunity to gather these materials themselves to create their own Viking homes. Working in teams of 5–6, the children showed fantastic enthusiasm and creativity. Some groups designed 2D front views of Viking houses, while others created bird’s-eye views, pointing out special features such as the fire pit and areas for animals. This outdoor learning experience was a huge success, with many pupils asking if we could do it again. Their teamwork, imagination, and engagement made it a memorable and meaningful activity.
