STEM at Sea P3FO Foil Boat Challenge
19th Jun 2026
As part of Holy Trinity’s Science week investigations P3FO had a fantastic time taking part in a fun and engaging foil boat STEM challenge! The children were tasked with designing and building a boat using only aluminum foil, then testing how much weight it could hold before sinking. Using Numicon pegs, they carefully added and counted how many each boat could carry. A special well done to Arijus and Aodhan D, whose impressive design held an amazing 86 pegs!
Throughout the activity, the class explored why some boats were more successful than others. They discovered that factors such as surface area and the overall design played a key role in how much weight each boat could support. It was a brilliant hands-on learning experience, and great fun was had by all!
