P5 Separate Like Scientists
19th Jun 2026
As part of Holy Trinity’s Science week investigations, P5 examined how they could use filtration and evaporation to separate soluble and insoluble substances mixed together.
A mixture of salt and pepper was added to water. They then filtered the solution separating the insoluble pepper ready to be dried on filter paper.
They then evaporated the water from the remaining solution leaving the soluble salt behind, and thus separated the salt and pepper back into the two original substances.
What a clever group of scientists.
