P4KL recreated "The Starry Night“

18th Mar 2026

P4KL have been loving studying the work of Vincent van Gogh, specifically his use of line to create a sense of energy and motion within his artwork. To explore these concepts, the students recreated "The Starry Night" using a watercolor resistance technique.

Students first used crayons, drawing on their learning of lines and textures, to map out the rhythmic, swirling patterns of the sky, focusing on how lines can suggest movement. When the watercolor washes were applied over the top, the crayons resisted the paint, revealing movement within the artwork. This lesson provided a great opportunity for the class to experiment with how different mediums interact while developing their understanding of composition and flow in landscape art.
