Building Better Breaktimes: A Whole-School Approach to Play
At Holy Trinity, we are deeply committed to fostering a vibrant and inclusive playground culture where every child feels empowered to explore and engage. To bring this vision to life, we have partnered with Playboard NI, who initially worked closely with our classroom assistants and midday supervisors to sharpen their facilitation skills and deepen their understanding of play-based development.
Today, that collaboration reached an exciting new milestone as the training moved from the staffroom to the playground. Our pupils across all key stages joined in the fun, turning the school grounds into a hub of energy and innovation. It was a joy to witness the children:
• Unlocking Creativity: Using open-ended resources to build and design.
• Strengthening Teamwork: Collaborating across year groups to solve "play challenges."
• Expanding Imaginations: Diving into rich, self-directed roleplay and inventive games.
By bridging the gap between staff expertise and student participation, we are ensuring that break times are not just a pause in the day, but a vital space for social growth and pure, unadulterated joy
